Arletta Schaffer Maahs, age 97, of Lewes, DE, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Oct 4, 2016.

Arletta (Letty) was born in South Philadelphia where she lived her early years, after which she resided in Delaware. The past 30 years she made Lewes her home where she enjoyed walking downtown and to the beach. She enjoyed long rides especially to Lancaster, PA and of course with stops for her ice cream. Being near the ocean was a great joy and she loved the Cape May-Lewes Ferry.

Letty is survived by her partner in life, Victor Chatfield, 7 of her 10 children, sons;, Fred, Thomas, Charles, Wesley, Dennis and daughters; Dawn and Dale in addition to her 7 surviving grandchildren plus 8 great grandchildren. Arletta was predeceased by her husband Irvin Norman Maahs, daughter Arletta, sons Joseph and, Irvin and grandson Michael.

Letty was an extremely generous person and donated to many causes, she especially favored the American Indian children. If she saw someone without a coat, she would give them the coat off of her back, which she did often.

She had an infectious smile, always a twinkle in her eyes and loved to dance.

Services will be held this Saturday, October 8 at 11:00am in the Chapel at Gracelawn Memorial Park , 2220 N. DuPont Hwy, New Castle, DE with interment immediate following.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Arletta may be made to the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition or to Delaware Hospice.
