MARGARET (MARGE) MERVIN KENTON
Margaret (Marge) Mervin Kenton, 91 years old, died peacefully on Monday, October 31, 2016.
Marge was born in Peters Township, PA. She was the sixth of seven children. She was a loving sister to John, Mary, Jean, Ann, Son and Jim. After graduating from Peters Township High School and working for Bell Telephone, she met and married Harry E. Kenton. They moved to Chicago and started a family. Marge wanted nothing as much as she wanted to be a mother. Her son Ken and daughter Kathy became the center of her life. Marge and Harry relocated several times for his job opportunities and eventually made Wilmington, Delaware their home.
Marge was a great role model and proved that women really can do it all. She raised her children, worked full time and even bravely battled breast cancer. Many do not know that Marge was a 45-year breast cancer survivor. She was also a dedicated and tireless driver for the Red Cross and for many years was known as the “Diamond Lady” selling diamonds and jewelry for Best Products, Inc.. Snow, rain, sleet, sickness or even hurricane, if Marge was scheduled to work, she was there.
Marge was a devoted and loving grandmother to her four granddaughters Lindsey Benedetti (daughter of Kathy), Sydney, Paige and Jordan Kenton (daughters of Ken and his wife Jennifer). Gramee Kenton was an amazing grandmother. She would drop everything to spend time with “her girls.” From her famous pancakes to Easter egg coloring to Booths Corner trips to her attendance at every school and sporting event, Lindsey, Sydney, Paige and Jordan are left with many beautiful memories of loving times with Gramee.
Marge was much loved by her family and many friends and will be remembered by all for her kindness, tenacity, honesty, love of animals (especially her Holly Dog), and feisty sense of humor. You could always count on her to join you for a dinner out and she would never pass up a good chocolate dessert. Her home was always warm and welcoming and decorated for every holiday. There will certainly be a void without Marge but we know she will always be with us in our hearts and memories and is watching over us from a more peaceful place.
She is survived by her children, Ken Kenton and his wife Jennifer Kenton and Kathy Saunders and her husband Scott Saunders, all of Wilmington, DE; her grandchildren, Lindsey Benedetti and her husband Vince Benedetti of Washington, DC and Sydney, Paige and Jordan Kenton, all of Wilmington, DE; her brothers, Son Mervin and his wife Emma of Finleyville, PA and Jim Mervin and his wife Bev of McMurray, PA; her granddogs, Lady, Romo, Sebastian and Kora.
A memorial service will be held at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803 on November 9th, 2016; Visitation, where friends may greet the family, at 5pm and service at 6pm.
