NANCY (MILLER) HANNIG
Nancy (Miller) Hannig, age 91, of North Wilmington, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 22, 2016.
Nancy was the daughter of the late G. Harvey and Theresa Miller. She graduated from Ursuline Academy and the New York City Ballet Academy. Nancy opened the Nancy Miller School of Dance in Wilmington in 1950.
Nancy met her soulmate, the late Arthur F. Hannig in 1951 and married in 1953 at Christ Our King Church and together raised three sons and one daughter.
Nancy was a founding parishioner of Immaculate Heart of Mary. She also worked as an administrator at the parish. She was a member of the Dance Educators of America, Saint Francis Hospital Junior Board, and she was a board member of Ursuline Academy.
Nancy had a gift of making houses into a home. Her decorating had such personal flare, which could not be imitated. She enjoyed and cherished entertaining with her family and friends. She was always excited to go on trips around the globe; her most memorable trip was a pilgrimage to Medjugorje, Yugoslavia. Nancy treasured spending time on the beach with her grandchildren at her summer homes in Rehoboth and then Lewes.
Nancy was a devoted mother and is survived by three sons, Arthur F., Jr. “Chip” (Katie), Terence, Stephen (Martha) all of North Wilmington; a daughter Sharon Bozentka (Neal) of Newtown Square, PA. “Nana” will be deeply missed by her 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Nancy is also survived by her sister, Dorothy M. Boehm; her sisters in law, Phyllis Hannig and Christine Sheridan, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Nancy was predeceased by her husband Art of 61 years and her brother George H. Miller, Jr.
Visitation will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 4701 Weldin Road, Wilmington from 8:30-10:30am on Saturday, December 3. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am, followed by the interment at St. Joseph’s on the Brandywine Cemetery, Greenville.
In lieu of flowers, the families suggest contributions to be made to Ursuline Academy, Advancement Office, 1160 Pennsylvania Avenue, Wilmington, DE 19806.
