Oscar H. Orr, 93, of Wilmington, died on December 8, 2016 in the Wilmington Hospital.
Mr. Orr was born in Philadelphia, PA and moved to Wilmington after graduating from John Adams High School, Long Island, New York. During World War II he served in the Army Air Corps, 96 Bomb Group, Eighth Air Force, stationed in England. He was a graduate of The American Academy of Embalming and Mortuary Research in New York City. Mr. Orr retired from McCrery Funeral Homes in December 1988 as a Funeral Director and Vice-President, after 47 years of service. After retiring he delivered Meals on Wheels for 20 years, and helped with the Pyrohy Program at S.S. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church. He was a past president of the Brandywine Optimist Club and a member of the V.F.W. Post # 7234 in Ocean View. Oscar was an avid reader and crossword puzzle solver.
He was preceded in death in 1996 by his daughter, Joyce O. Biloon and in 2014 by his son, Jeffrey D. Orr and is survived by his wife of 68 years, Janet Lyons Orr; his son, John R. Orr, Sr. (Cyndi Sanford); his grandchildren: Joe (Ali), John Jr. (Cathy), Josh, Jaime, and Brittany; and his great-grandchildren: Alexis, Kyle, John, and Jack.
A viewing will be held from 10-11am, Thursday, December 15 at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Talleyville, where the funeral service will be held at 11am. Interment will be held privately.
