SUZANNE R. SMALL

Suzanne R. Small, 86, a longtime resident of the Graylyn Crest neighborhood, died peacefully at her home on December 19, 2016 after a long and full life.
Born in Millville, N.J. to Bryce and Grace Redman, she attended Wheaton Academy, Kings College and was a graduate of the Delaware Hospital School of Nursing. While in school, she spent many happy summers at the Jersey shore. As a newly graduated Registered Nurse, Suzanne worked at the Wilmington Hospital E.R. Then while raising her family, she worked as an R.N. with her late husband in his dental practice, at Foulk Manor, and ultimately retired from Stonegates. Suzanne was very creative and loved working in her garden. She was known for her beautiful wildflower garden and for arranging those cut flowers into colorful and creative arrangements. In her younger years, Suzanne loved to travel, she especially enjoyed Maine, and frequented several Elderhostels. She was a lifelong, gifted knitter, and shared that talent with the Knit For Kids organization. Suzanne was a voracious reader and passed along her love of reading with children through volunteering at Read Aloud Delaware. As her physical health failed, Suzanne was very content to spend her time knitting, reading and watching her beloved Phillies.
Suzanne’s husband, Jesse O. Small, Jr., DDS, died in 1985 and she is survived by their 5 children: Cynthia A. Salmon (Dave), Douglas R. Small, Marjorie J. Donnelly (John), Karen L. Small, and Peter T. Small (Regina); and 3 grandchildren: Elizabeth Anne Donnelly, Kathleen S. Donnelly, and Grace M. Small.
A viewing will be held from 10am-11am, Tuesday, December 27, followed at 11am by a funeral service at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Talleyville, (Route 202, south of Silverside Rd.); followed by interment at Lower Brandywine Cemetery. Small by sending a contribution to Read Aloud Delaware, 100 West 10th Street, #309, Wilmington, DE 19801 or www.ReadAloudDelaware.org Messages of condolence may be sent to www.mccreryandharra.com
