DIANE E. HOFMANN
Diane Elizabeth Hofmann
Diane Hofmann, or “Dee-Dee,” as she was known to so many, passed away peacefully in her beloved home in Newark, Delaware on Tuesday, January 10, 2017. Dee-Dee was born in Wilmington, the daughter of Maryellen and Bill Hofmann and sister to Dan, Jim and Holly.
As a child, she studied piano, and the arts went on to be a huge passion of hers throughout her life. She studied Interior Design at The Art Institute in Philadelphia for several years before proudly joining the Delaware National Guard, where she bonded deeply with all of her battle buddies.
Dee-Dee also worked in the hospitality industry for many years, particularly at Tailgates in Newark where she was a legend and a friend to everyone who came in the door. She recently worked for Grotto Pizza in Middletown along with her big brother Dan. Her main occupation in life was making people laugh and smile and feel warmth.
Dee-Dee also had an immense love of children. They lit up her world and she lit up theirs. She was a performer at heart and she loved to recount stories of her experiences with kids -- complete with full re-enactments, voices and impressions. She was a favorite aunt to her nephew, James, and adored by JJ and Jacob, the sons of her close friend, Caroline Meeks.
Dee-Dee will be dearly missed by anyone with whom she came in contact. Her infectious spirit, contagious laugh, and huge heart will live on forever in the memories of everyone who loved her.
Friends and family are invited for visitation from 10:00-12:00 followed by a service at 12:00 on Monday January 16 at the McCrery and Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Highway Wilmington 19808. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in Diane’s memory to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
