Frank R. Pontari, 74, passed away peacefully at home on January 13, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Philadelphia PA to the late Mary (Pandolfi) and Frank S. A. Pontari.

Frank spent his working career as an elementary teacher in Smyrna and Claymont schools followed by joining the family business at James F. Pontari and Bros. as a produce broker. He later became self-employed under Frank R. Pontari, Inc. and continued in this field until he retired.

Frank graduated from Yeadon High School in Pennsylvania and earned his B.A. in Education at West Chester University. He enjoyed the sport of fishing especially annual family trips with family members organized by his father. In honor of his father, Frank continued to host these trips. He was an avid fan of all Philadelphia sports teams and always had a great love of flashy, fast cars, in particular his Corvettes.

Frank is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Karen (McKenna) and will be dearly missed by his three children: Kristina Vanner (Curt), Allison Lee (former husband Mike), and Jason (Dawn O’Connor). He leaves to cherish his memory his grandchildren: Jak, Declan, Annabelle, Jason and John as well as his sister, Rosemary Penrod, his mother-in-law, Doris McKenna and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends.

A visitation will be held Monday, January 16, 2017 from 10-10:45 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 4701 Weldin Rd, Wilmington DE 19803 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM. Interment will be private.
