Jack Quillen, age 87 of Claymont and Wilmington passed away on Sunday January 22, 2017 with his loved ones present at Wilmington Hospital. Jack was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Elaine L. Quillen and his sister, Bernice Wilhelm.

Jack received an honorable discharge from the United States Marine Corps after four years of service. He retired from the Sun Oil Company, Marcus Hook, PA in 1986 after 40 years of service.

Jack was an avid lover of 40’s and 50’s music, dancing roller skating, golf and bowling. He enjoyed spending time in Ocean City,NJ with his family and friends. He loved fishing and boating with his brother-in-law, Lew Wilhelm at Broadkill Beach, DE.

Jack was a dedicated Freemason for 63 years. He was entered into Oriental Lodge. #27, A.F. & A.M. in 1950. Jack continued admitted to Granite Lodge #34 in 1976. He served as Worshipful Master of Granite Lodge in 1988. Jack was also actively involved in the Nur Temple Shriners, A.A.O.N.M.S.; he participated in the Wrecking Crew, directors Staff and the Oriental Band. His other masonic endeavors include: Valley of Wilmington, ancient accepted Scottish Rite, where he became a Past Sovereign Prince within the Princes of Jerusalem. Jack was also awarded the Scottish Rite Meritorious Service Award (MSA) in 2007. He was a member of the Royal Order of Jesters, Delaware Court No. 164, Wilmington, DE and a member of the Order of Quetzalcoatl and the Shrine Club of Delaware. In 1969, Jack became a Dad Advisor in Gunning Bedford Jr. Chapter, Order of DeMolay. He received DeMolay Advisor Awards for the DeMolay Legion of Honor & Cross of Honor in 1979.

Jack is survived by his sons’, David R. Quillen (Joanne), Steven J. Quillen; his grandchildren, Jennifer Quillen-Strauss (David), David R. Quillen, Jr., Christina Quillen, Jackie Fennington (Sean) , Jessica Quillen, Sarah Quillen; great-grandchildren, Lucy Fennington, Olive Fennington, Isaac Fennington and his name sake, Jack Strauss. He also leaves many nieces and nephews; his brother-in-law, Richard (Dick) Harris and his sister-in-law, Ellen Harris.

A viewing will be held at the McCrery and Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Tallyville from 6 to 8 pm Friday evening January 27th. A Masonic Service will begin at 7:15 pm. Additional parking will be available at the Brandywine YMCA located off Mount Lebanon Road. A Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home at 10:00 am on Saturday January 28th. Burial will follow at Gracelawn Memorial Park DuPont Highway, New Castle.
