Marianne Catherine Cordrey, 79, formerly of Springfield, Delaware County, PA, and currently of Brandywine Hundred, Wilmington, died on February 6, 2017 after experiencing failing health for several years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marian (Heffron) Fenimore and Harry Kobler Fenimore.
Marianne graduated from Springfield High School in 1956 and Lankenau Hospital School of Nursing in 1960. She was a Registered Nurse and during her nursing career, she worked in the labor and delivery department at Lankenau Hospital, Elwyn Institute, and later worked as a staff nurse for a family practice doctor. She also was a receptionist for Dental Associates of Brandywood. From 1979-1981, while her daughters were students at Wilmington Friends School, she was the Vice-President of the school’s Home & School Association. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Marianne loved nothing more than spending time with her family. She enjoyed vacationing at the Jersey Shore and Corolla, N.C. and also enjoyed taking care of her plants and dogs. For the last 20 years, she had been an active participant in the aquatic exercise program at the Brandywine Y, through which she made a number of her closest friends.
Marianne is survived by her husband, Richard I. Cordrey; their 2 daughters, Marianne (Mimi) Cordrey-Cotsell of Wilmington and Ellen F. deVrind (John) of Middletown; 6 grandchildren: John M. Bloxom, V (Jessica), Alison Bloxom, Ashley Bloxom, Mieke deVrind, Jonathan deVrind, and Gabriel Cotsell; and 1 great-grandson, John M. Bloxom, VI.
A visitation will be held from 10-11am, Friday, February 10 at the McCrery and Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Talleyville, followed at 11am by a funeral service. Interment will be at Silverbrook Cemetery. The family suggests honoring Marianne’s memory by sending a contribution to American Heart Association, 200 Continental Drive, Suite 101, Newark, DE 19713.
