J. Clayton Powell passed away peacefully on February 13, 2017 surrounded by his family.

He was born in Wilmington, DE to the late John and Blanche Powell. Clayton enter the U.S. Navy in 1943 during WWII, serving as a bombadier in the Pacific on a sea plain, the Coronado. He also served during the Korean War on an aircraft carrier. Clayton had worked at the Chrysler Corp. as an accountant for 35 years, retiring in 1986. He enjoyed woodworking, golf, mall walking and traveling.

Clayton is survived by his wife of 69 years, Marie Hayman Powell, his sons, Rodger C. Powell (Eve) and J. Gordon Powell (Kathleen), his grandchildren, Steven, Nina, Erin, Kristin, Elize and 10 great grandchildren.

Friends may call on Saturday, February 18, 2017 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Limestone Presbyterian Church, 3201 Limestone Road, Wilm., DE 19808 where a service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be held privately at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
