Joann E. (Oberg) Toner, age 71, of Wilmington, DE, formerly of Boothwyn, PA, died February 13, 2017 at home surrounded by her loving family.
Joann graduated from Chichester High in 1963. During her early career worked as a retail representative for Lifesavers, American Chicle and Wrigley’s. She retired from the Brandywine School District in 2011 where she worked in food services for Lancashire Elementary. She was fondly known as “Mom-Mom” by all the students and staff. In her spare time, Joann enjoyed gardening, crafting, and crocheting, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Joann is survived by her husband of 51 years, John Toner; daughters Denise Lazar (Chris) and Sherry DiGiovanni (John); grandchildren Marissa, Christopher, Justin, and Adam; brother Herman Oberg III (Mary); and uncle Robert Oberg.
Friends and family are invited to a viewing on Monday, February 20 beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803 where a funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Interment will follow the service at Lawncroft Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Mary Campbell Center, 4641 Weldin Rd., Wilmington, DE 19803 or the Sunday Breakfast Mission, 110 Poplar St., Wilmington, DE 19801.
