Erma Lee Cherry went home to the Lord on Tuesday February 7, 2017.

The eldest of six children, Erma was born on January 1, 1931 in Oak City, NC to Cleveland and Josephine Cherry before moving to Philadelphia soon thereafter. In 1949, she graduated from Muriel-Dobbins Vocational School and began a career in early childhood education. She also worked in operations for a local publisher until the time of her retirement.

Erma along with her family, was a devout member of Second Shiloh Baptist Church. She was a board member and also an usher for many years. Erma also enjoyed a festive life, as she was continually surrounded by dear friends and family. Her arms were always open. Many know that one of her favorite activities was to go on excursions to the casinos in Atlantic City.

Though she was the oldest, Erma was the final surviving among her siblings, and as of this past autumn, she was also preceded in death by her only child, Flavia Skinner. She is survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, two grandsons (Julian and John.)

A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 20, 2017 at 11:00 am at Second Shiloh Baptist Church. 1433 N 21st Street, Philadelphia, PA 19121 where friends may call from 10:00-11:00. The burial will be in Rolling Green Cemetery.
