Samuel Clement Whalen, Jr., age 85 of Wilmington, DE, formerly of Philadelphia, PA, died on February 21, 2017 at Foulk Manor Retirement Home.

Samuel was a 1949 graduate of St. Joseph's Preparatory School, and earned a Bachelor of Science from St. Joseph’s University and an MBA from Drexel University. He served our country in the Army from 1952-1954 during the Korean War, and was the Comptroller in the Eastern Region for the US Postal Service. Samuel was a member of the Association of Church Musicians of Philadelphia, Saint Coleman’s Choir, and Aldan Men’s Glee Club. In his spare time he enjoyed swimming and music.

Samuel was predeceased by his parents Jane Lenny and Samuel C. Whalen, Sr. and brothers David and John. He is survived by his wife Anna Mary Flynn Whalen; children Samuel, John, Anne Marie, Stephen, Catherine; and 10 grandchildren.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation at 10 am on Saturday, February 25 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 4701 Weldin Rd., Wilmington, DE where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery.
