Jane Whitlock Britton, 87, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on March 1st. Jane was born in Louisa, Virginia the oldest of three children of Stapleton and Gladys Whitlock. Jane earned a medical technology degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and Medical College of Virginia and then spent her early years working in various hospitals. Most of Jane’s life was devoted to raising her family and providing for others. She enjoyed her years on the Board of St. Michaels Day School, knitting hats and gloves for those in need and working with Meals on Wheels. She had a green thumb for gardening and was famous for her pound cake.
Her strong faith sustained her throughout a full life and she will be long remembered and missed by many. Jane was preceded in death by her husband Wray and her siblings Angie and Edward. She is survived by her four children: A. Wray Britton Jr. (Carol), Barbara DeHaven (Kim), Catherine Britton, Mark Britton (Andrea and her son Jack), four grandsons Tyler & Spencer DeHaven, Mitchell & Joshua Britton, and several nieces and nephews.
Jane’s children would like to thank Lodge Lane for the care and support they provided during the last two years, especially the staff in the memory care wing.
A celebration of life will be held on March 11, 2017 at 3:00pm.at St. David’s Episcopal Church 2320 Grubb Rd, Wilmington, DE 19810. In lieu of flowers Jane asked that donations be made to St. David’s Legacy Fund. Messages of condolence may be sent to www.mccreryandharra.com
