Barbara Ann (Hagedorn) Stepanek, 79 of Claymont, Delaware, formerly of Carroll, Iowa died on March 3, 2017 in Wilmington.

Barbara graduated from Carroll High School in 1955. She went on to receive at Bachelor of Arts from Northern Iowa University in 1959. She furthered her education by receiving a Master of Science in 1978.

She was a Special Education teacher in Iowa and Delaware public school systems for 16 years. After teaching, she became an Information Scientist at Astra Zeneca Pharmaceuticals, from which she retired in 2003. Yet, being driven and active, she continued to consult for them even in retirement.

She belonged to Delaware State Bridge Association and American Contract Bridge (Life Master). She loved all board and card games. Barbara was also a member of the Junior League, an avid supporter of the Humane Society, and a volunteer at the Brandywine Zoo. When not volunteering or participating in local social activities, Barbara loved to travel. But, her greatest love was spending time with friends, family, and especially her grandchildren, who she adored.

Barbara is predeceased by her husband, Frederick A. Stepanek and by her sister, Norma Osborne.

She is survived by her children, David Stepanek (Tammy) of Lafayette, LA, Jeff Stepanek of Claymont, DE, and Allison Markussen (Fridtjov) of Leesburg, VA; grandchildren, Hannah, Emma, and Grace Stepanek of Lafayette, LA, Lukas, Annelise, and Erika Markussen of Leesburg, VA, Matt, Andrew, Rachel, and Kathryn Lee of Lafayette, LA; her brother Don Hagedorn of Carroll, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on the family on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 10:00am at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE where a memorial service will follow at 11:00am. Burial will be private.
