Grace Platt Lukas was 92 years old and resided in Cokesbury Village when she died of natural causes on Thursday March 20. She was at home in Cokesbury with family at her bedside.
Grace was born in April of 1924 in Bridgeport, CT to Albert and Signe Pierson Platt. She attended Bassick High School in Bridgeport, CT and graduated from the Yale School of Music in New Haven, CT in 1945. Grace married George Lukas in 1947. Grace has three children - a son and two daughters. She was a pianist and church organist for 80 years, playing the organ for choirs, concerts, symphonies, weddings, and recitals. She also taught piano to children. She was a secretarial supervisor for the DuPont Company at Louviers in Newark, DE.
Grace enjoyed physical activity outdoors, such as walking, trail hiking, cross country skiing, camping, and traveling. She also enjoyed dancing, listening to and playing music, watching drama plays, hearing lectures, doing crafts, and quilting. She was a member of St Barnabas Episcopal Church. Grace was a beautiful, kind, and patient woman, always making time to talk boogie with and listen to people, and she was adored by all who knew her. She shared her love of music and created an appreciation of the art.
Grace is preceded in death by her parents Albert and Signe Pierson Platt, and her older brother Albert Platt. Grace is survived by her three children, Dory Lukas of Anchorage, AK, George (Chip) Lukas of Ojai, CA, and Kathy Lukas of Roseburg, OR. She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Lukas Ketner of Portland OR, Tara Lukas Ketner who is traveling, and Dane Ketner of Anchorage AK.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 20 at 11 am in Cokesbury Village at 726 Loveville Road, Hockessin DE, in the media room on level A.
