STELLA FRANCES VIGNOLA PARSONS
Stella Frances Vignola Parsons, age 91, of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 11, 2017.
She was born and raised in Wilmington to the late Frank and Elmira (Milbourne) Vignola and graduated from Wilmington High School in 1943. After graduation Stella worked in administration at the former Wilmington High School. During WWII, she worked for the Civil Service for the Department of Navy at Dravo Corporation and the Corps of Army Engineers at the DuPont Building in Wilmington. After the war she worked for Hercules Powder Company for six years. After her husband’s death in 1961, Stella was employed by the Mt. Pleasant School District as a classroom aide at River Road Elementary School for seven years. She then worked for and retired after eighteen years from Delaware Trust–Meridian Operations Center in 1990.
Stella was an active member of Emmanuel Orthodox Presbyterian Church where she assisted with
Sunday School classes and Vacation Bible School. She was also a member of Seller’s Senior Center,
where she taught line dancing for many years.
Stella’s husband, Warren E. Parsons, preceded her in death. Stella was also preceded in death by her brothers, Harvey and Frank Vignola, Jr, in-laws Bernard and Joan Parsons, as well as brother-in-law Clem Carney and his daughter Kathy. Stella is survived by her three children, Claudia P. Taylor (Chuck) of Townsend, DE, Mira P. Mette (Howard) of Winslow, ME, and Mark W. Parsons (Becki) of Wilmington, a sister, Carmella Carney and her daughter Karen Carney, both of Wilmington, six grandchildren - Jesse, Sarah, Ian, Andrew, Ben and Rachel, twelve great grandchildren and nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, sister-in- law Elaine Vignola and her children, sister-in-law Peggy Vignola, cousins, and special neighborhood and Seller’s Senior Center friends. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Visiting Angels, Vitas Hospice, and especially Sunrise of Wilmington for their love and care of Stella over several months.
A viewing will be held on Monday, April 17, from 10-11am, at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Homes, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, where a funeral service will follow at 11 AM. Burial will be at Silverbrook Cemetery.
