My beloved mother Florence Amelia Bivens, 68 of New Castles, DE, passed away on April 14, 2017 at Pennsylvania Hospital. She was born on September 1, 1948 to Myrtle Cornish and William Rogers in Easton, MD. She spent her early childhood in Easton, MD and later relocated to Wilmington, DE where she spent the rest of her life.

My mom successfully obtained her G.E.D. from Delaware Technical Vocational, and in addition to her formal education, she received several years of vocational training.

After retiring from 25 years of service at Bell Atlantic/Verizon, she pursued numerous occupations including; student transporter, drug and alcohol counselor, factory worker, meter maid, general nursing assistant, as well as a distributor of artwork, legal services, and vacuum cleaners.

While employed at Bell Atlantic/Verizon she sat on the Board of the African American Cultural Program.

Mommy loved crossword puzzles, scrabble, football, fishing, playing cards, posing for pictures, reading, and above all else she loved her family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her granddaughter Whitney R. White and by her parents Myrtle Pinder and William Rozier.

She leaves to cherish her memories to her only daughter Deatrice R. Ahmed (Bastawi), her grandson Michael A. White, Sr. (Ramice), her great-grandchildren Jada, Sanai, Michael Jr., and Gabriel. Her siblings Barbara Cornish, Shirley Braxton (Ron), Angela Pinder, Gary and Cary Pinder, Sharon Childs, Regina Camper (Timothy), Robert Pinder, Stephanie Bailey (Greg), and a lifelong friend Mr. Albert (Pete) Rice.

She was unforgettable and she will never be forgotten.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at McCrery & Harra Funeral Homes, 3710 Kirkwood HWY, Wilmington, DE 19808 with a visitation beginning at 10:00am and a service following at 11:00am.
