Thomas R. Casey age 84, passed away peacefully at Seasons Hospice, Christiana, on April 25, 2017 after a brief illness.
Thomas (Tom) was born in Chester, PA on January 22, 1933 to Edith and Jeremiah Casey. He was predeceased on April 8 by Nancy, his wife of 63 years; 4 brothers, and 1 sister.
Tom graduated from P.S. du Pont High School in 1950, served in the US Army from 1953-1955, and worked for Hires-Turner Glass for over 30 years. After retiring, he became the warehouse manager at Casey Electric, Inc. for 15 years.
Tom played semi-pro baseball and softball until the age of 58. During that time, he also coached many Little League and softball teams. He was an avid sports fan, attending many Phillies games and University of Delaware football games, and enjoyed the horses at Delaware Park. Tom was known to many for his good-natured personality, unique humor, and classic one-liners. He was the number one fan at all of his grandchildren’s events over the years. Tom will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing and loving him.
Tom is survived by his devoted children and their spouses, Steven and Deborah Casey, and Susan and John Behrens; his grandchildren, Alicia (Cortland) Bradley, Jillian and Carolyn Behrens, Ryan Casey and Devin Casey (fiancé Jordon Foss) and great-granddaughter, Charlotte Jean Bradley born on April 23. Also surviving him is his sister Pat Burk.
A viewing will be held from 4:00-6:00 pm on Sunday April 30 at the McCrery and Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Highway Wilmington 19080. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30am Monday morning May 1, at St. Catherine of Sienna Church, 2503 Centerville Rd. Wilmington 19808. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Helen Graham Cancer Center, 4701 Ogletown-Stanton Rd. Newark, DE 19710 or Seasons Hospice, 220 Continental Dr. Suite 407 Newark, DE 19713.
