Joan passed away on April 26, 2017 at home with her family by her side. She had numerous battles with cancer in her life, and courageously battled cancer for the last four years. She was born in Chestertown, MD to the late Myrtle and Gordon Kendall. She graduated from Henry C. Conrad High School in 1956. Known as “Aunt Joan” to hundreds of children, she founded Nannies & Kids Korner Daycare. Joan also worked for Diamond State Telephone, Delaware Trust, Bank Credit and Lil’ Village Beauty Shop. Joan was a world traveler and sailor, visiting the Great Wall, Hong Kong, South Africa, Italy, Bahamas, Caribbean and the Winward Islands. She also enjoyed the spring break trip she took every year with her nieces, and vacationing in Florida over the last few years. “Her beach house in Fenwick Island was one of her favorite places.”
Joan’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff on 6-B of the Christiana Hospital, as well as Compassionate Care Hospice, for their love and care shown towards Joan and their family during her illness. Joan was predeceased by her husband Roger Lambeth and her brother Lee Kendall. She is survived by her husband Jack Reedy; son Richard Lambeth (Melinda); grandson Austin; brother Larry Kendall (Sharon); nieces Lauren Kendall, Courtney Kendall (Pamela); nephews Keith Kendall and Brian Kendall (Kathy) and great nephews Kevin and Owen; step-daughter Kim Prada (Nick), Mark and Hope; step-son Jay Reedy (Nancy); sister in-laws Brenda McCann (Randy), Pamela Dixon (Todd), and sister in-law Gale DeAscanis.
A viewing will be held on Thursday May 4, from 6-8pm at the McCrery and Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Highway Wilmington, 19808. A service for Joan will take places on Friday morning at 11am at the funeral home. Burial will be held privately. Flowers will be accepted or donations to the Helen Graham Cancer Center, 4701 Ogletown-Stanton Rd. Newark, DE 19713.
