Michael H. Brandenburg, 86, a resident of Brandywine Hundred and formerly of Hanover, MA, died on May 18, 2017.

Mike was a graduate of St. Norbert High School (1948) and St. Norbert College (1952) in De Pere, Wisconsin. During his 40-year career as a High School English and Latin teacher in the Mansfield, MA School District, he inspired and mentored hundreds of students with his firm, but gentle concern.

Mike was a lifelong, devoted Christian. In Massachusetts, he was very active in the Hanover Council on Aging, Good Samaritans and the Children’s Defense Fund. In Delaware, he was a faithful member of St. David’s Episcopal Church where he was inducted as a member of the Society of Leeks and Daffodils – the church’s highest honor awarded annually to a member for selfless service.

Mike is survived by his wife of 52 years, Cecilia H. Brandenburg and their 3 children: Jennifer A. Brandenburg (Steven C. Marcus), David M. Brandenburg (Laura), and Kristin M. Ortiz (Juan); 5 grandchildren: Rachel and Jonah Marcus, Amelia and Madelynn Brandenburg, and Isabella Ortiz; and his sister, Doreen Brandenburg.

A memorial service will be held at 10am on Monday, June 5 at St. David’s Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests honoring Mike’s memory by sending a contribution to St. David’s Episcopal Church, 2320 Grubb Road, Wilmington, DE 19810 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
