John Michael Nagowski Jr., age 73, of Elkton, MD, formerly of Wilmington, left us too soon on Saturday, May 27, 2017.
He was born and raised in Wilmington and was the son of the late Dorothy and John Nagowski, Sr. and graduated from Mt. Pleasant HS in 1961. John was a patriotic man and served as a member of the Delaware Army National Guard. He faithfully worked for E.I. Dupont Company, in the field of plastics and polymer; namely Vamac. And after 50 years of service, John retired in 2015. John enjoyed working with his hands and was quite the handyman. He was a jack-of-all trades and could accomplish any task from electric to plumbing to cutting doorways into walls. He really could do it all. He also enjoyed collecting sea glass and lighthouses. He was a history buff and had a love for reading. John also enjoyed watching soccer and college lacrosse, especially with the men in his family and he never missed a day of Jeopardy; he knew all the answers. But more importantly, John’s priority in life was his family. He showed that by finding ways to create traditions that will last for a lifetime. One of those traditions he treasured most was spending time with his family; especially at their beach house in Broadkill Beach. John is survived by his wife of 5 years, Paula Nagowski, 3 children, Kimberly Mathews, John III and Ashley Nagowski; 5 grandchildren, Cody, Bailey, Maxie, Paisley and Marley; a sister, Bonnie Leonard and the mother of his 3 children, Casimera Nagowski. John also added to his family, with his marriage to Paula, 3 daughters - Victoria Delaney, Jessica Mazzone and Theresa Thomas and 9 grandchildren, Cassidy, Brittany, Isabella, Abrianna, Dominic, Matthew, Blake, Sophia and Cori. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Ronald. Never to be forgotten; John left forever “footprints” on our hearts.
A visitation will be held on Friday, June 2 from 5:30 to 7 pm, at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pk., Wilmington, where a Celebration of John’s Life will follow at 7pm. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Broadkill Beach Preservation Association, PO Box 113, Milton, DE 19968.
