Richard L. Hallett, age 90, of Newark, Delaware and Ocean Park, Maine passed away on May 26, 2017.

Richard was the husband of Lois A. Hallett with whom he shared 63 years of marriage before her passing in 2015.

Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, Richard received his bachelor’s degree from Lowell Textile Institute and continued his education at MIT, where he received his Master’s degree in science. After marrying Lois in 1952, they moved to Wilmington, DE, where he began his career with DuPont in their Textile Fibers division. He remained with DuPont until his retirement in 1992.

Richard was a dedicated member of Peninsula McCabe United Methodist Church where he faithfully sang in the choir and served on many committees in various capacities. The friends he and Lois made there were life long and were considered to be more like family than friends.

Richard will always be remembered as a kind man who made everyone feel welcomed at either his home in Delaware or his beach house in Maine, where he was known to greet people as they walked to the beach every morning.

He is survived by his daughter, Libby Donahue, sons-in law Joseph Donahue, and Kevin Szczepanik, and his three grandchildren, Andrew, Emily and Grace Donahue. He was predeceased by his wife, Lois and daughters Meredith and Karyn.

Deeply loved and admired by family and friends, Richard will be missed but never forgotten and his life lesson of “family first” will live on in all of us.

A Memorial service will be held on Friday June 16th at 11:00 a.m. at Peninsula McCabe United Methodist Church, 2200 Baynard Blvd Wilmington, Delaware 19802, with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ocean Park Association, Richard Hallett Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 7296, Ocean Park, ME 04063.
Interment will be private.
