Richard W. Bowman, age 76, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Friday June 9th, 2017. He was born May 16, 1941, in Chester, PA, minutes ahead of his twin brother, Frank. He was raised in Chester and Aston, and attended Eddystone and St. James High Schools.
Richard proudly served in the US Marine Corp from 1959-1963. His duties as a cryptographer allowed him to travel throughout the Pacific, including assignments in Hawaii, Japan and Vietnam before being stationed in Germany, where he met his future wife, Karin.
After 18 years of employment at Allied Chemical Corporation, he went on to pursue other opportunities, turning his love of music, particularly oldies and Motown, into a career as a popular club and party DJ, entertaining at many venues in the Tri-State area. He also established a successful tax preparation and advisory business.
Richard was a lifelong Phillies fan and baseball enthusiast. He played amateur baseball for the Allied Chemical team, while employed there and played, managed and umpired in the Penn-Delco Industrial Men’s Fast-Pitch Softball League for many years.
Richard was a prolific reader, and enjoyed pinochle, poker, chess, and classic movies. In later years, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and enjoyed dining on shrimp fajitas at the Mexican Post Restaurant.
Mr. Bowman was predeceased by his mother and step-father, Mary Jane and Robert Preston, step father Percy Guy, brother Franklin H. Bowman, all of Aston, father Charles J. Bowman of Wallingford, PA, and sister in law, Doris Capanelli of Claymont.
He is survived by Karin, his loving wife of 55 years, son Richard L. Bowman of New Castle, DE, daughter Sandra Crossman (Edward) of Bear, DE, grandchildren Andrew and Laura, his sister Jane Lewis of Yuma, AZ, and aunt Anne Grieco of Dover, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
