Geraldine Marie “Gerry” Lewis, age 97, formerly of Indian Field, Wilmington, DE, passed away on Friday, July 7, 2017. She had been at The Jeanne Jugan Residence for almost 3 years.

She was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Sem and Teresa Marsili, graduating from St. Justin’s HS. Gerry married the love of her life in 1942, Thomas G. Lewis, Jr., in Pittsburgh, and they relocated to Wilmington as a Dupont Company family. While Tom worked on the Manhattan Project, Gerry worked for the New Castle County Defense Plant. She then raised her family in the St. Helena’s and Holy Rosary Parishes. At Holy Rosary she was involved in the Altar Society and the Parish Carnival. Gerry was also a member of the Archmere Mother’s Guild.

Within 9 months, her daughter Charlene died in 1966 and her husband Tom died in 1967. After Tom’s death, she worked at the Woodshaven-Kruse School for Girls where she taught Home Economics and Life Skills.

Gerry is survived by 3 sons, Thomas G. III (Donna), Robert A. Sr. (Ann) and Edward A. (Elaine); 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and her extend family, the Dunns. She was also preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Marsha; 5 siblings, Ada, Sylvia, Vivian, Reda and Mary; and her long time special friend of over 40 years, Edward Dunn.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Gerry’s name to The Little Sisters of the Poor, 185 Salem Church Rd., Newark, DE 19713.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, July 12, from 9:30- 10:45 am, at Holy Rosary RC Church, 3200 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, where a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 am. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery.
