Ernestine Burton Trader, age 90, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2017 after a long illness.
She was born and raised in West Virginia to the late Hattie M. (Whorley) and Ernest M. Burton. Ernestine worked for the Dupont Company in the Finance Department, Payroll Division, retiring after 31 years. She served her Lord many years at the Mt. Salem United Methodist Church, then Emmanuel Orthodox Presbyterian Church. Ernestine was a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary, Conservative Caucus of Delaware, Toastmaster’s Club and a member of an Arthur Murray Competitive Dance Group. She attended the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Delaware. Ernestine and Ralph enjoyed traveling; visiting 47 states, North and South America and Europe. She loved music, classical movies and photography. Ernestine was a cherished sister and aunt to her family and a proud and loving grandmother to the Trader Family.
Her husband of 28 years, Ralph H. Trader, Jr. died in 2004. Ernestine is survived by her sisters, Joyce Shimp and Charlotte Miller (Charlie); 11 nieces and nephews; 2 step sons, Raymond (Raquel) and Randy (Carol); a step daughter-in-law, Cathy, 14 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Ernestine is also preceded in death by her step son, Robert and 2 siblings Jettie Ray and Gentry Burton.
A viewing will be held on Monday, July 10, from 10-11am, at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, where a celebration of her life will follow at 11 am, then to the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear for the burial.
