Jack Steggell, age 79, of Newark Delaware, formerly of Saugus California, and Crayford, East London, England, passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at Christiana Hospital, with loved ones by his side.

Born in 1938 in Bexleyheath (London), Jack was brought up by his mother, went to school in Bexleyheath, and later moved to Crayford with his mother and older brother, Peter.
He spent 12 years in the British Royal Air Force (1956-1967), during which time he attained his Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Kent College of Engineering Technology, attaining the rank of Master Technician General Engineer during his service.

Jack worked for 15 years with the E.I. DuPont company in Europe and the USA, moving to California in 1981, then to Delaware in 1996.

Jack enjoyed cooking, tinkering, music, and telling jokes. He loved all of his pets over the years, dogs, cats and birds, most recently his beloved cats Pekoe, Sophie, and Friday.
He is predeceased by his father, Harold Steggell, mother Betty Morley nee Cook, and his brother, Peter.

He is survived by Sandra Steggell of Newark, Delaware; daughter Rosemary Tamplin (Pete) of England; stepdaughter Susan Russell (Mark) of Wilmington; son Geoffrey of Newark; granddaughters Carol Harris & Jenna Russell; his Aunt Hazel, Sister-in-Law Gill, nieces Gail, Amanda, Sally and Heidi, all of U.K./Europe; his friends Michael & Barbara Wagoner of Dover, De.

A viewing will take place on Tuesday, July 25 at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 525 Polly Drummond Rd., Newark, DE 19711 at 10:30 am, followed by a funeral service at 11. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.

The family wishes to offer a special thanks to Calvin Keeler, for his ministry during Jack’s illness.
