SHIRLEY M. STEFANISKO

Shirley M Stefanisko, age 84 of Wilmington DE, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 28, 2017, with her family at her side, in Phoenix AZ.
Born and raised in McAdoo, PA, she moved to Philadelphia where, in 1953, she graduated from the Philadelphia General Hospital School of Nursing and her dream of becoming a registered nurse was realized. Shirley moved to Wilmington, DE where she worked at the Delaware, Memorial and General
Divisions, quickly advancing to the position of nursing supervisor. When the doors of the new Christiana Care Hospital were opened she was there, working with familiar faces to get the new hospital running and earning the respect of a new generation with her knowledge and guidance. In April of 1997, she retired from Christiana Care Hospital as Nursing Supervisor after a combined 35 years of service. Shirley
enjoyed traveling the world with friends, family and co-workers. She enjoyed doing cross stitch and everyone looked forward to her handmade gifts. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren. No sacrifice was too great to insure their happiness. She was the historian of the family, remembering details about special events within the family that brought joy to all. The qualities that made Shirley a special person are too numerous to list but upon learning of her death a dear friend said, “Shirley never met a stranger.” Perhaps that quality was the foundation for all the others.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Anna Stefanisko. She is survived by her son Craig, his wife Amy, and granddaughter Anna; daughter Yolanda, son-in-law Brad Klotz, grandsons Taylor and Christopher; sister JoAnne and brother-in law Jim Davis.
A memorial service will be held on Friday August 4 th, at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home 3710 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington, DE 19808, at 5pm with a gathering to follow until 7pm. A reception and celebration of Shirley’s life, from 7:30-9:30pm, will be held at McGlyn’s Pub 8 Polly Drummond Shopping Center
Newark, DE 19711.
A private service and interment will be held on Saturday, August 5 at St. Michael’s cemetery in McAdoo PA.
