Edlow B. “EB" Quarles, Jr. of Wilmington, DE, died Saturday, September 2, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital at the age of 93.

EB was a native of Altavista, VA. He was a 1949 graduate of Randolph Macon College in Ashland, VA where he received a BS in chemistry and was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha. EB was a WWII veteran; he served in the European Theater of Operation. He joined Hercules in 1951 at Radford Arsenal, and also worked at the Bacchus and Allegheny Ballistic Laboratory plants before transferring to the Engineering Department. While there, he moved to Brazil as Technical Director for design and construction of the joint venture polypropylene plant in Triunfo, Brazil. After 36 years of service, EB retired from Hercules.

EB was a member of St. Paul’s Methodist Church where he served on the Finance Committee, the Hercules Men’s Club, the Hercules Country Club where he served on the board of advisers and the Mid-Atlantic Senior Golf Association where he served as Treasurer.

EB was predeceased by his son David of Ft. Collins, CO . He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mildred Showalter Quarles; two sons, Gary of Roswell, GA, and Stephen of Mill Valley, CA; daughter Karen of Wilmington, NC; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 8 at 11 am at St. Paul’s Methodist Church, 1314 Foulk Rd., Wilmington, DE. Burial will take place privately.
