Sarah H. Golden, age 91, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 4, 2017.
She was born in Northern Ireland and was the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth Houston. During WWII in Northern Ireland, Sarah met a young American soldier in church, Arley Golden. They soon fell in love and married on November 5, 1945. Sarah and Arley where involved for over 55 years in the United Methodist Church, 22 years at Christiana-Salem and 13 years at Christ UMC. She directed, sang and played piano in many choirs. Sarah’s compassion was shown as she read and recorded books for the blind and was a caretaker for her close friend for many years, Alberta C. Johnson. Her talents shined the brightest as a loving wife and mother.
Her husband of 61 years, Rev. Arley B. Golden died in 2007. Sarah is survived by her 3 children, Michael (Susan), Maureen Frederick (Thomas) and Mark; 1 grandson, Peter Golden (Breanna), 3 great grandchildren, Michael, Allie and Alexander; a sister, Edith Armstrong (John) of Belfast, Ireland and a niece, Catherine Parker (James). She is also preceded in death by her 2 siblings, Charles Houston and Anne Scott.
A visitation will be held on Monday, September 11, beginning at 10 am, at Christ United Methodist Church, 6 N Clifton Ave, Wilmington, DE 19805, where a funeral service will begin at 11 am. Burial will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donation to Christ UMC.
