Joan Rae Slentz, age 86, formerly of Wilmington, Delaware and South Bethany Beach, Delaware passed away on September 13, 2017.

Joan was born and raised in Altoona, Pennsylvania and was the daughter of the late James and Anna Rae Wyrough.

Joan was a loving wife and mother of seven children, 22 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Joan gave her heart and talents hosting Irish teenagers from war torn Ireland during the early 1980s. She was a Cub Scout Leader and volunteered her service on behalf of those suffering from Aids to provide patients with transportation to their doctor appointments. Joan spent the last 14 years of her life at the Willow Valley Retirement Community in Lancaster, PA. Joan volunteered her time assisting residents with significant cognitive/physical issues. She also volunteered her time delivering Meals on Wheels for people unable to leave their homes.

Joan was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Charles J. Slentz and her daughter, Barbara Ann Slentz and her brother, David Wyrough. She will be dearly missed by her family: Edward (Barbara) Slentz of Wilmington, DE, Patricia Slentz of Dover, DE Thomas (Rebecca) Slentz of Aberdeen, MD, Marie Smith of Bear, DE, Kathy Holland of Bear, DE and Diane (Marc) Chevrier of Collegeville, PA.

A viewing will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 am on Thursday, September 21st at Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, 4701 Weldin Road, Wilmington followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Interment will take place in All Saints Cemetery on Kirkwood Highway.
