Age 76, of Bear, Delaware passed away surrounded by his loving family on Friday September 15, 2017.

John was born in Wilmington, DE to the late John R. and Florence E. Becker. He graduated from H. Fletcher Brown Vocational High School and worked as a Sheet Metal Foreman for over 43 years until his retirement, for E. J. De Seta, Inc. John was the “go to man” for large and difficult installations and could be depended on to get the job done. He possessed a strong work ethic and was always willing to teach the younger employees of the company the skills needed to succeed in the trade. He was a gentle giant and once you were John’s friend you were his friend for life.

John adored his wife Joyce and his family especially his angels, Lindsey and Gabe. He cherished being with them at home, on holidays and at the beach. John had countless friends that he loved like family.
They shared many memories, lots of trips, and crabs and beers. John’s fondness for his beloved dogs and birds was unmatched. He will be both bitterly missed and lovingly remembered by many.

He was predeceased by his sister, Catherine B. Clark. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joyce (McAvaney) Becker; his daughters, Theresa Russell (Joe) and Christine Becker-Schorah (Joey); his sister, Ethel Bernhard (Wasyl “Bill”); his granddaughter, Lindsey Russell and his grandson, Gabriel Finn Schorah. Also left to cherish his memory and endless love are numerous family members and countless friends.

A viewing will be held from 9 am until Noon on Tuesday September 19th at Saint Margaret of Scotland Roman Catholic Church, 2431 Frazer Road, Newark, DE. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held after the viewing. Burial will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park on DuPont Highway in New Castle.

In lieu of flowers the family would prefer donations in John’s memory to any charity of your choice.
