Ted was born in his family farmhouse in eastern -Colorado. He grew up farming alongside his father, mother, and sisters before earning his bachelor's and master's degrees at Colorado State University. Following a brief training with the U. S. Army, he received his PhD from the University of California, Davis. After taking a job with the DuPont Company, Ted settled in Wilmington, where he met the love of his life, Kathleen, and where they raised their daughters, Kate and Jeni.
Following his 25 years with DuPont, Ted worked in a family business and then started Banacom Signs with Kathi. In the later part of his life, he continued his lifelong love of horticulture by becoming a Master Gardener and working at Winterthur Museum as a garden guide for over 12 years.
Wherever life took him, Ted was fully committed to his work and his family,
expertly rising to any challenge, whenever and wherever he was needed.
Ted is survived bvhis beloved wife of 55 years, Kathleen Krygier Lewis; his
daughters Dr. Kate Lewis Elnaggar, MD (Michael Smith) and Jeni Lewis Cramer (Mike); his grandchildren Sofia Elnaggar Liekweg, Jackson Cramer, and Nate Cramer; his sister Virginia Lewis Roe (Lauren); dear family friends Eric Hamlen and Michelle Snyder; and many nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends. Ted is pre-deceased by his father Theodore Edwin Lewis, Sr.; his mother Geanell McClelland Lewis; and his sister Barbara Lewis Garnett.
The Lewis family expresses their sincere thanks for all who showed Ted kindness, respect, and grace, especially towards the end of his life, including but not limited to Delaware Hospice, Cadia Rehabilitation Center, and Friends Life Care.
A memorial service will be held at the Greenville Country Club, 201 Owl's Nest Rd, Wilmington, DE on Wednesday, September 20 at 1:00 pm.
