John E. Ware, age 75, of Newark, DE, left this earth to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, Nov. 4th, 2017. He was predeceased by his son, Brian L. Ware; parents, Hiram and Beatrice Ware; brothers, Hiram, David, Paul, and Arthur Ware; brother-in-law, Basil Timchak; sisters, June Morente, Nancy Cohen, and Laura Mae Ware; and sister-in-law, Edith Ware. He survives in the hearts of his beloved wife, Katherine Ware; daughters, Lauren Stark (Scott Stark) and Julianne Ware (Brian Moore); grandson, Jackson Moore; brothers, Richard (June), Jim (Sue Ellen), and Bobby (Shannon) Ware; sisters, Linda Timchak, Gerri Tress, and Vel (Doyle) Pointer; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom he deeply cherished.
John was born on Aug. 22nd, 1942 to Hiram and Beatrice Ware in Wilmington, DE. He lived most of his young life in Trainer, PA. He graduated from Eddystone High School and began working for Sun Oil Company before being drafted into the army at 21. During basic training, he was identified as a candidate for Officers Candidate School and committed himself to excellence as an officer, training troops for service in the Vietnam War. After his service, John continued working for Sun Oil Company while going to night school to complete his Undergraduate Degree in Business at Widener College. John later completed his MBA at Wilmington College while working as a manager in Information Systems for Delmarva Power in Wilmington.
John was a devoted husband, father, pop-pop, brother, uncle, and friend. He loved taking his family camping, especially to Shenandoah, spending time with relatives, and walking his dogs through White Clay. After retiring from Delmarva Power, he enjoyed traveling the world with his wife. At the end of his life, John suffered from a degenerative lung disease, and his family takes comfort that he is no longer in pain and is now in the care of his Lord and Savior. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by those he loved.
A viewing will be held on Nov. 11th, 2017 at 10 am, followed by a funeral service at 11 am at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington, DE 19808. A fellowship luncheon will follow at Blue Crab Grill in Newark, DE from 12:30 to 3:30pm. There will be a private burial at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery on Dec. 26th for immediate family. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made in John’s name to Cancer*B*Ware, the organization created after the death of his son, Brian L. Ware, which supports colon cancer research at the Helen F. Graham Cancer Research Center. Additional information may be found at
