JOHN Y. FALIN

John, 52, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, December 24. 2017. John was born in Philadelphia, PA, but soon moved to Wilmington, DE. A graduate of Salesianum High School, John attended UD before beginning an electrician apprenticeship. John worked for Battaglia Electric, while a member of the IBEW Local Union #313, for 32 years.
John is survived by his wife of 28 years, Terri (Frey), the love of his life since he first set eyes on her at a New Year’s Eve party in 1979. John is survived by his son Scott, his daughter Taylor, and her boyfriend Nash, who were a source of unending joy and pride for him. He is survived by his parents Tom and Doris, his two sisters and their husbands, Kathleen and Eddie Casper and Mary’an and Rob Elliott, and his brother, Tom. He will be dearly missed by many relatives and friends, and especially his adopted grandmother, Grace Hurst, and his Sunday couch buddy, Bandit.
John’s love for his family was paramount. He supported his children as a little league baseball and roller hockey coach, dance dad, and mixologist for the parents of the traveling ice hockey team. He was happiest when spending time with family and friends, playing games, or sharing conversation.
John was known for his love of music and travel. He was well on his way to completing his goal of seeing a concert in every state. John loved introducing family and friends to new music and sharing self-recorded CDs. He was a road-trip adventurer who preferred the road less traveled and was always researching unusual landmarks to explore. He delighted in helping others discover new places and interests.
John was an electrician by trade, but a self-styled musician, songwriter, author, and philosopher at heart. He was quick to laugh, a sincere listener, and always willing to learn new things. He was a unique individual who touched all that he met with his huge heart and his generous personality. John will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday January 3 from 9-11am followed by a celebration of life service at 11am at the McCrery and Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Highway Wilmington 19808.
