WILMINGTON, DE - Ruth Merilyn (Fish) Jumps, age 93, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away on Friday, January 5, 2018. Merilyn was born in 1924 and grew up in the small town of Frankfort in upstate New York. She graduated from Frankfort High School where she was a cheerleader on the team that won the Cheerleaders' Association State Championship in 1941. She attended the State University of New York College of Technology, Canton, NY, where she was President of her sorority, Pi Nu Epsilon. Merilyn met her future husband, Carl, during their freshman year. In March of 1943, Carl joined the war effort along with many of his classmates, having to defer his studies. After Merilyn obtained her degree in Dietary Science in May, 1944, she worked as a dietician at Utica Memorial Hospital in Utica, NY.

Merilyn and Carl corresponded throughout his service in World War II and married in 1947. While Carl pursued his degree in Electrical Engineering, Merilyn worked several different jobs to help support them. After his graduation in 1950, they moved to Delaware. Merilyn became a full time homemaker and mother. With Carl at her side, they excelled in providing their children with a perfect childhood and family life. The love, devotion, and respect they shared for each other was always evident. As Merilyn's dementia progressed over the last ten years, Carl rarely missed a day of spending afternoons and evenings with her at the skilled nursing facility.

Merilyn was a member of Concord Presbyterian Church, a Girl Scout Leader, Past President of New Century Club, volunteered with Meals on Wheels, and volunteered in her children's schools. She possessed a sweet personality and positive outlook, a great sense of humor, was an excellent cook, and was loved by many. Merilyn cherished her family and friends, enjoyed reading, bowling, bridge, traveling, and doing crossword puzzles.
