Michael John Blackton, 60, of Cherry Hill, NJ, passed away on January 1, 2018 after many years battling cancer. Mike grew up in Collingswood, NJ and graduated from Haddon Township High School and the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. For decades, Mike was an executive and sous chef at several casinos in Las Vegas, NV. His wry sense of humor kept him loyal to Philly sports teams and endeared him to many friends, picking up his nickname "the Bear" from years in little league. He was passionate about teaching all aspects of cooking techniques, golf, surf fishing, and movies.
Mike was predeceased by Robert Blackton (father) Rita DeBuono (mother) and Timothy Blackton (brother), Survived by a daughter Marita, brother Robert, of Phoenix, AZ., sister Marita and brother Vincent, of Egg Harbor Twp., NJ. Nephew Timothy , Niece Alexandra , Niece Michaela and Niece Maria
The family wishes to thank the staff at Barclay's in Cherry Hill for their devotion and assistance to Michael in his later years.
A private service is planned at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home in Wilmington, DE.
