Age 89, of Wilmington passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 15, 2018. He was born in New York City to the late George Teaney, Sr. and Mae (Hale) Teaney. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.

After his time in the service George returned to New York and met his wife of 58 years, Alice R. McGrenra. They moved and raised their family in Wilmington, DE where they created so many cherished memories for their children and neighbors. He built his career in the moving and storage industry and retired from Larmore Moving and Storage in 1993. Once retired, George & Alice moved to Lakeland Florida, where they spent 20 years making new friends, playing golf, bicycling and volunteering their time at local church and sporting events. George was an extremely devoted husband, father and friend. He was a true family man. He was a scout leader, baseball coach and always the happiest guy in the room. George was active in The Knights of Columbus where he was knighted to the 4th degree in 2005.

His wife, Alice, passed away in 2014. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Patricia Barker and Barbara Donohue. He is survived by his children, George Teaney, III. (Shawn), Peter Teaney (Sarah), Ellen Slaweski, Mark Teaney (Heike) and Bridget O’Connor (David). Also left to cherish his memory are his 12 grandchildren.

A viewing will be held at McCrery and Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike Wilmington, DE 19810, from 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday January 31, 2018. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Noon on Thursday February 1, 2018 at Immaculate Heart of Mary RC Church, 4701 Weldin Road Wilmington, DE 19803. Burial will follow at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear.
