Thomas Lazar, 90, went home to be with the Lord on January 28, 2018. He was born in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania to Romanian naturalized US citizens, Anna Ochim Marie and Traian Lazar. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1945 and from Eastern Bible Institute (now University of Valley Forge) in 1951.

Thom was a pastor for over forty years to several Delaware churches. He retired in 1993 after 38 years of ministry at Newark First Assembly of God Church (now Parkview Assembly of God). He was a true shepherd who loved his parishioners and visited them both in the hospital and in their homes. He was well known for his substantive yet witty messages that positively influenced the lives of his congregants.

In his later years, Thom lived with his daughter in Wilmington, North Carolina where he enjoyed a good game of golf and socializing with his friends at the Senior Center while playing billiards.

Thom was a wonderful husband and loving father who could be counted upon for wise advice, stimulating conversation and infectious laughter. No matter how difficult a situation, he had a way of adding humor to lighten the load. He transitioned from his ministry behind the pulpit to epitomizing the life of Christ through his integrity, his gentle spirit, his demonstration of gratitude for those around him and his ability to share the “Good News”.

He is survived by his daughters, Claudia Lazar and Rene Lazar McCann (Steve) and his granddaughter, Nicole Lazar. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Irene W. Lazar, and their son, Thomas M. Lazar.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at Parkview Assembly of God Church, 235 Polly Drummond Hill Road in Newark, Delaware on Friday, February 2, 2018 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, followed by the funeral service at 8:00 PM. A private interment will be held at 11:30 AM at Gracelawn Memorial Park in New Castle, Delaware.
