Mary “Betty” Harlam, 90 of Wilmington died peacefully on February 11, 2018. Born on Valentine’s Day in Braddock, PA to the late William and Elizabeth Glenn. After a 15 year career as a New Castle County Crossing Guard, Betty dedicated her retirement years to helping others. Betty was a dedicated member of Holy Child’s prayer chain and Lazarus committee. Betty cherished her family, friends, Steelers and all things Pittsburgh.

In addition to her parents, Betty is predeceased by her beloved husband of 61 years, Thomas; her brother William Glenn and her sister Anna Mannion.

She will be dearly missed by her sister, Rheda Breen (Robert), sister in-law, Janet Wolfe; her children, Debra Lauver (Mark), Michele Smith, Thomas Harlam (Patricia), William Harlam, Donald Harlam and Kellie Verrelli (Tim); nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.

The family would like to thank the caregivers and staff of Sunrise Senior Living, Shipley Manor, Vitas Hospice and Betty’s “Earth Angel” Sr. Ann Hughes.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 23rd at the Church of the Holy Child, 2500 Naamans Road, Wilmington, DE 19810 with visitation at 10 a.m. Burial will be private at Delaware Veteran’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Church of the Holy Child in Betty’s memory.
