Caroline “Tootsie” Dill Bishop, age 85, of Wilmington, DE died on Monday, February 5, 2018 at home. Tootsie grew up in Bellefonte and was a graduate of Mount Pleasant High School where she met her first husband, James A. Merkel. She began her working career at Ralston Purina in Wilmington and left the workforce when she started having children. Tootsie returned to the workforce in 1968 joining Phoenix Steel as an Executive Secretary. When Phoenix Steel ceased operations she joined DuPont in 1988 and retired after 10 years.
Tootsie loved quilting and belonged to two quilting clubs. She was a member of a bible study group and loved visiting yard sales on Saturday mornings. She was predeceased by her husband, William E. Bishop. She is survived by her children and their spouses James A. Merkel, Jr. (Kathy) of S. Portland, ME, Linda M. Horton (Bill) of Wilmington, and Carolyn M. Frank (John) of Wilmington, six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
A Funeral Service will be held at 12:30 on Friday, February 16 at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, with visitation starting at 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers her children ask that donations be made to Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation at
