Dr. Loren D. Brake Sr. passed away at Wilmington Hospital on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at the age of 86.

Loren was born in Buckhannon, West Virginia to his parents Clifford and Ora Brake. He attended West Virginia Wesleyan College and while pursuing his academia, he became one of the college’s top scoring basketball players under coaches Maravich and Ellis. He graduated in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science degree, followed by his Master of Science in 1955 and his Doctorate in Philosophy in 1958 from the University of Pennsylvania.

Loren began his prestigious and tenured career with DuPont as a research chemist where he developed 26 patents, of which; two are still utilized today. After his retirement in 1993, Loren enjoyed being with his grandchildren, especially watching their sports events, woodworking, square dancing, gardening, and spending time with his family. His high work ethic and always challenging himself to advance his learnings were characteristics that he carried throughout his life. Loren was also an active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. He was a spunky but gentle man who cherished and embraced his family, especially his love, Ima Gean.

Loren will be sorely missed by his wife of 65 years, Ima Gean, his children, Loren Dale Jr. (Diane), Carrie Schabla, grandsons, Christopher (Courtney), Zachary Brander (Meghan), Shawn Brander, cousins, and friends.
