Wilmington - Russell H. Wainwright, age 90, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 10, 2018.
Raised in Claymont, he was the son of the late Jessie and Silas Wainwright. He graduated from Claymont HS in 1945. He proudly served his country in the US Army during WW II. Russell retired from Verizon also working for the former Diamond State Telephone Co. He was an active and very productive member of the Diamond State Telephone Pioneers Liberty Bell Chapter, where he received the “Good Neighbor Award” and was inducted into the “Hall of Fame”. Within the Pioneers, Russell was instrumental in the making and adapting toys for children with disabilities. Also with the Pioneers, he helped orchestrate the painting of the map of USA on several school playgrounds. Russell enjoyed woodworking and fabrication.
His wife of 66 years, Elizabeth “Anne”, died in December of 2017. He is survived by his 3 children, Jeffrey, Gerald and Janet.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Compassionate Care Hospice staff, Keith Henderson and especially Michelle Frey.
