Newark - Margaret, age 86, more fondly known as Peg or Peggy, was peacefully ushered into her heavenly home by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, May 19, 2018.

The fourth of six children born to the late Rudolph and Hazel Lane the family relocated to the Newark area in the 1940’s, farming and selling their wares at the open-air market on King Street in Wilmington. Peg would eventually meet Tom Roberts (known as Pete) who lived on the farm across the way, that was a stones throw from Salem United Methodist Church where they would be married.

Upon graduating from Newark High School, she and her inseparable sister Faye, began their careers together in the DuPont Company steno pool. Twenty-two years later, having attained the position of Executive Secretary (Explosives Department), Peg opted for early retirement to spend more time with her children.

Peggy’s life can best be described as one in service to others and the spiritual matriarch of her family. Always obedient to God’s urgings this “Good Samaritan” would often approach strangers with words of encouragement and small “cash infusions” to meet needs unseen by the rest of us. An active church member who especially loved singing in the choir, she would fondly recount the Billy Graham Crusade at Brandywine High School (1970’s) in which she sang as part of the Evangelist’s choir.

Predeceased in 2015 by her husband of 60 years Thomas Jr, Peg leaves son Thomas, III (Cassandra), daughter Susan Roberts, three granddaughters Elizabeth Ashley Nickerson (Derek), Jocelyn Kaminski, Caroline Kaminski, Great Grandson Jaxson Nickerson, sister Faye Reusch (William), favorite niece Deborah Reusch, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Siblings that predeceased her were William, Stanley, Lawrence and Renda.

The family would like to thank the staff of Regal Heights Healthcare for their compassion and vigilance during the last three years of Margaret’s 11 year battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Services will be held at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE on Thursday, May 24, where relatives and friends are invited to visit. The viewing will be held from 10am to noon. A celebration of Margaret’s life will immediately follow. Interment will be at Gracelawn Memorial Park.

In Lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Margaret’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Valley Chapter, 399 Market Street, Suite 102, Philadelphia, PA 19106,
