Robert Joseph McHugh, 87, died May 25, 2018. Robert was a devoted family man, a talented craftsman, and an excellent storyteller.

He was employed by DuPont Company for 41 years as a chemical engineer. He invented a patented process for fusing teflon O-Rings. He was a devoted community leader including roles at St Mary Magdalen church and school, Cub Scout Leader and Delaware Feis chairperson for many years. What brought him the most joy was being involved in his grandchildren's lives.

Robert was predeceased by his parents, James and Gail; his brothers, James (“Sonny”), Thomas, and William; and his sister Doris. He is survived by his wife Joan; his four children, Robert (Lorena), Sheila O’Connell (Patrick), John (Adela), and Tara Boyce (John); his daughter-in-law, Gigie McHugh; his grandchildren, Nicole (David), Christian, Connell, Madden, Maura, Aislinn, Aidan, Erin, Patrick, Anna, Sylvia, Laura, and Jorge; and his sister Sue Hotchkiss.

A viewing will be held Wednesday, May 30th, from 6-8 pm at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home at 3710 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19808. The mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at 11:00 at Saint Mary Magdalen Church, 9 Sharpley Rd, Wilmington, DE 19803.
