Charlotte A. “Sherry” Reed, age 94, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 31, 2018.
She was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1923 and fled with her husband, Emery Gaspar and daughters, Judy and Aggie to the United States in 1956 and settled in Vineland, NJ. After 20 years of marriage to Emery, he passed away in 1964 and she moved to Wilmington. Sherry was a lab technician for the DuPont and Atlas Companies until 1971, when she married Arthur S. Reed, Jr. From this point, she dedicated her life to raising her family in Claymont.
She was a member of Holy Rosary Church and active with the food closet, a member of Grace UMC Women’s Circle and the Nur Temple Fife and Drum Corp. Sherry volunteered at Wilmington Hospital in the Physical Therapy Department. She enjoyed square dancing, going to the casinos and out to dinner. Sherry loved animals and contributed to numerous animal charities.
Along with her first husband Emery, Sherry is predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Arthur in 2013 and a son, Stephen Reed, in 2011. She is survived by her 6 children, Judy Newsome (Dwight), Aggie Alexander (Sid), Mary Lawrence (Walter), Arthur S. Reed, III and twins, David and Douglas Reed, 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and a host of loving friends and extended family. Sherry is also preceded in death by her 2 siblings, John Farago and Gizella Palne.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, June 5, from 6-8 pm, at McCrery & Harra Funeral Homes, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington and on Wednesday, June 6, from 10 – 10:45, at Holy Rosary Church, 3200 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am. Burial will be held privately.
