Claymont - Mary Ann Nannery, age 88, formerly of County Longford, Ireland died on June 1, 2018.
Up until her last days, Mary spoke of fond memories of growing up in Ireland. If you ever visited the house at 18 Lawson Avenue, you would have known her as “Aunt Mary”. She was like a bonus mom to her nephews Leo, Tom, and Ron Dodd and her niece Rosemarie Dodd Giroso.
For most of her adult life she suffered from debilitating arthritis but maintained a healthy attitude.
Mary worked in Tastykake in her early years in America and would later work in retail for Kennards Department Store, and Strawbridge and Clothier.
Mary loved keeping up with the news especially the Irish papers. She enjoyed Irish music and religious hymns and was a devout Catholic, being a 52 year member of Holy Rosary Church singing in the choir for several years.
She is survived by her sister and best friend Anna Dodd; her nieces and nephew above and Ron’s wife Sarah Dodd and has many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews in Ireland, as well as her great nephews here, Thomas Dodd, Jr., Blaise Giroso, Aidan Giroso, and Emmett Dodd. Mary is predeceased by 2 brothers, Thomas and Frank Nannery and her brother- in- law Leo Edward Dodd.
Service and burial will be held privately.
