Joseph R. Cilento, age 87, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2018.
He was born in Philadelphia and attended South Philadelphia Schools. Joe attended Pennsylvania Military College and majored in Music. Joe started playing the trombone when he was 11 years old. He joined the U. S. Navy and was stationed at the Navy School of Music in Washington, DC. There he met his future wife Yvonne Medin. They were transferred to Charleston, SC and he served his final military duty in Guantanamo Cuba. He returned to Pennsylvania and Graduated from P.M.C. then moved to Delaware and was employed by Lutheran Brotherhood Life Insurance for 30 years. Afterwards he worked for the I.R.S. for 10 years. Joe played with the Tommy Dorsey Band and several bands in Pennsylvania and Delaware. He and Yvonne traveled much in the United States, Mexico, Hawaii and the Caribbean but loved Aruba the best.
Joe is survived by his wife of 65 years, Yvonne, his sons, Joseph, Mark (Grace), Steven (Sharon) his grandchildren, Stephanie Montreuil (Scott), Colton (Kristine), and Kristian, Shannon and Kimberly, step-grandchildren, Philip, Christopher, Amber and Andrew Rendina and great grandchildren Allison and Elena Montreuil. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cynthia Louise, his brother James and his sisters, Phil and Lena.
Friends may call on Saturday, June 23, 2018 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at St. Philip’s Lutheran Church 5320 Limestone Rd, Wilmington, DE 19808 where a service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE., in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Philip’s Lutheran Church.
