Ken was born August 18, 1939 to Leo and Helen Schubert in Alton, Illinois. He graduated from Roxana High School in 1957, from the University of Illinois with a BS in Ceramic Engineering in 1964, and from the University of Delaware with an MS in Materials Science in 1974. Ken worked for EI DuPont in ElChem Department and for the University of Delaware in the Institute of Energy Conversion, but his true love was when he began his woodworking business, Hoops Etc in the basement of his home.
Ken met Ellen at the University of Illinois in the fall of 1963 and they were married in the Toledo Methodist Church on June 25, 1966. Daughter Laurie was born in 1974.
Ken loved the outdoors - hiking, canoeing, and backpacking either on his own or with the Wilmington Trail Club. Most of all he loved fresh water fishing. He attended Christ United Methodist Church.
Ken is survived by his wife, Ellen, of almost 52 years and his daughter Laurie( Andrew Repoza). Also surviving are brothers Curtis, wife Marcella, and brother Norman, wife Patricia. Nieces and nephews are Elizabeth Schubert (Carl Ton, children Alexandra and Oliver), Travis Schubert (Lisa and daughter Madison), and Jon Schubert. Ken was predeceased by his parents, Leo and Helen Schubert.
Ken suffered from Alzheimers but maintained his smile and laugh until the end. He loved to go places and see people. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Alzheimers Association are suggested,
