In 1943 Wira R. Bilinsky was a slave laborer in Germany. On December 5, 2011, she and her husband Yaroslav were invited by the Honorable Joseph R. Biden, Jr., Vice President of the United States and by Dr. Jill Biden to attend their Holiday Party at the Naval Observatory, their official residence in Washington, D.C. on December 11, 2011. For medical reasons she could not attend.

Wira was born to Juchym and Motria Rusaniwskyj on December 25, 1930 in a hamlet near Romny, Ukraine. She, her sister Natalia, and her parents arrived in the United States in 1950. In 1956, she graduated with a B.A. degree from the University of Pennsylvania, where she studied chemistry. A first rate bench chemist, she worked for the Agricultural Research Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Wynwood, PA, 1957-1964. From March 1974, until her retirement in November 1987, she was employed by General Foods Manufacturing, Dover, Delaware. She was also very active in Ukrainian community affairs.

Wira married Yaroslav Bilinsky February 18, 1962. They had four children. Peter Yaroslav, Sophia Vera Yaroslava, Nadia Yaroslava, and Mark Paul. Peter died August 31, 2017. Wira died June 14, 2018. She is survived by her sister Natalia Konowal, her husband, three of her children and her eight grandchildren.

The viewing will be held Friday, June 22, 2018, 6pm – 8pm, at McCrery & Harra, 3710 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington, Delaware. Funeral services will be on Saturday, June 23, 2018, 9am, at SS Peter & Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 1406 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, Delaware. Burial will be immediately following at St. Andrews Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery in South Bound Brook, New Jersey.
